Effect of Eight Weeks High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Caffeine Intake on Glycemic Indices and Insulin Resistance in Wistar Diabetic Male Rats
Authors
Abstract:
Background & Aim: The supplements and exercise training are used to diabetes control. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks high intensity interval training and caffeine intake on glycemic indices and insulin resistance in diabetic rats. Methods: In a quasi-experimental study, 50 Wistar diabetic male rats were randomly divided into five groups including control, diabetic control, diabetic + supplement, diabetic + exercise and diabetic + exercise + supplement. Training was planned for 8 weeks and 5 sessions weekly. In the supplement groups, caffeine was administered at the dose of 70 mg/kg, five days weekly for 8 weeks. 48 hours after the last training session, fasting serum glucose, insulin levels, insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity were measured. Data were analyzed using ANOVA method (P <0.05). Results: The results showed a significant decrease in glucose and a significant increase in insulin levels in the two groups of diabetes and in the diabetic + supplement + exercise group compared to the diabetic control group (P =0.001). Diabetic + exercise group showed more effects on insulin resistance than diabetic control group (P =0.001), but this difference was not significant in comparison with other groups (P =0.85). The highest increase of insulin sensitivity was observed in the diabetic + supplement group (P =0.007). Conclusion: It seems that caffeine can improve blood glucose level, insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity in rats with type 2 diabetes. Also, HIIT exercises can reduce insulin resistance and be used as an intervention in diabetes.

Effect of Eight-Week High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Caffeine Intake on serum levels of interleukin 2 and 4 in male diabetic Wistar rats
Introduction: Cytokines are immune related factors. Production of pro inflammatory cytokines in diabetic patients is increased, which is exacerbated by vigorous training. This study investigates the response of serum IL-2 and IL-4 to eight-week high Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) with caffeine intake on inflammatory and anti-inflammatory responses in diabetic rats. Methods: In a clinic...

Background. Omentin-1, a novel adipokine expressed in visceral adipose tissue, is negatively correlated with insulin-resistance and obesity. Objective(s). The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of high-intensity interval training on omentin-1 gene expression in visceral adipose tissue and insulin-resistance in male wistar rats. Methods. A total of 26 male Wis...

Background: The relationship between low PGC-1α expression and several metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity has been identified. This study investigates the effect of eight-week high intensity interval training (HIIT) and caffeine intake on mitochondrial biogenesis in soleus muscle in diabetic rats induced Streptozotocin. Methods: In a clinical-interventional animal study, 50 male r...

Introduction: Patients with type 2 diabetes with high insulin resistance are also at high risk for non-alcoholic fatty liver. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks of HIIT and combined training on serum levels of liver enzymes and insulin resistance index in women with type 2 diabetes. Methods: 54 women with type 2 diabetes (age 55.77 ± 5.92 years, BMI 28.98 ...

Background and objectives: The role of genetic components in expression of proteins involved in signaling pathways of fat and carbohydrate metabolism has been well-demonstrated. The aim of this study was to determine effects of high intensity interval training (HIIT) on glucose, insulin, and insulin resistance levels as well as IRS1 expression in gastrocnemius muscle of obese Wistar rats. full textEffect of continuous aerobic training versus high intensity interval training on Resistin and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic rats
Background: the adipose tissue produces and releases peptides that contribute to various processes in body, including insulin resistance. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of continuous aerobic training and high intensity interval training on Resistin and insulin levels and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic male wistar rats. Methods: Twenty-four Wistar rats...
